1. A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks? a creek, unless it’s really small, and then it’s a stream

3. A metal container to carry a meal in? a lunchbox
4. The thing that you cook bacon and eggs in? a frying pan
5. The piece of furniture that seats three people? a couch
6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof? the gutter
7. The covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening? a porch
8. Carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages? a soda, but that’s learned behavior. I used to call it a coke.
9. A flat, round breakfast food served with syrup? a pancake
10. A long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself? a sub
11. The piece of clothing worn by men at the beach? swimsuit
12. Shoes worn for sports? tennies
13. Putting a room in order? cleaning
14. A flying insect that glows in the dark? firefly, not that we have any
15. The little insect that curls up into a ball? gross
16. The children’s playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down? teeter-totter
17. How do you eat your pizza? with a fork or by hand
18. What’s it called when private citizens put up signs and sell their used stuff? garage sale, yard sale, moving sale
19. What’s the evening meal? dinner
20. The thing under a house where the furnace and perhaps a rec room are? Basements have rooms. Crawlspaces have storage.

For number 3, I might also call it a skillet
For number 8, I’m also with Catie, in the learned response changing from coke to soda
For number 12, I’d probably call ’em sneakers
For number 15, probably caterpillar or “little bug that curls up in a ball”
For 17, pizza is finger food
Generally, I have to agree with Catie on most counts….Unsurprising, given that we went to school only 85 miles or so apart.
Wierd. I grew up thousands of miles away (in Western Pennsylvania) and
most of my answers are the same, save for:
1. If it’s small, a creek. If it’s larger, a stream.
8. a soda (though most other Pittsburghers call it pop)
12. sneakers
15. pillbug
17. fork if it’s really hot. Fingers otherwise.
1) If it’s really small my father called it a rill. Otherwise spot on.
10) Sometimes hogie… depends on the bread.
11) Shorts. I only call them swimsuits if they are obviusly specificly for swimming.
13) Picking up. Cleaning involves… well cleansers.
