Waldrap Ibis at Dublin Zoo

kitsnaps: waldrapp ibis

I love these birds. They’re so flamboyantly ugly. They’re terribly endangered, with apparently only around 500 left in the wild, and as with all endangered species, I’m perpetually grateful for not only the opportunity to see them at all, but for the conservation and preservation work that zoos all over the world do. It’s not especially easy to get a good picture of one through the glass, so I’ve been trying for, oh, two years now. This is my favorite so far, though I’ll no doubt keep going back for…

Red Panda at Dublin Zoo

kitsnaps: red panda

The red panda is the only mammal on earth whose babies are not significantly cuter than its adults. This is largely because a red panda is so absurdly cute, but also evidently because they’re so secretive about having babies that by the time even the Dublin Zoo found out they’d had some, the babies were already at least half the size of the adults. The Great Photo Archive Project

For years I’ve wanted to start scanning in all the photos of my yout’, sorting them out, and putting them in photo albums. I have also wanted to actually PRINT OUT digital photos so I could put them into albums. Today I have begun The Great Photo Archive Project. If I’m lucky, it won’t take me the rest of my life. I will probably (probably) be able to restrain myself from posting ALL THE PICTURES, but a few to start with will amuse me, as they have already done on…

we are returned!

We’re back from Belfast, where we had an absolutely splendid time. We didn’t get pirate pictures, because we were in the wrong place at the necessary time, but we walked approximately 45207 miles and took an equal number of photographs, some of which I’ll post soon. And I had all kinds of clever thoughts and things to post about regarding the weekend, but I’m too sleepy now to type them up and I’m afraid I’ll sort of not get around to it later in the week. Maybe I should give…
