things make a post

1. Mikaela is doing an Old Races: ORIGINS give-away over on her blog! Go check it out! 2. The Disneyland for Deon page has been fixed and now accepts donations again. o.O Remember, I’ll (eventually) be writing a short story as a thank-you for helping Deon get to Disneyland, so if you want access to an exclusive story, go throw a few bucks that way and make a kid’s dream come true while you’re at it. :) 3. I’ve finished Kim Stanley Robinson’s 2312, which in some ways I liked…

Pride & Prejudice

Having now re-read the book and re-watched both the BBC miniseries and the Kiera Knightley film, I must say… …both productions really did a stupendous job of adapting the novel. Differently, obviously, because the BBC had 6 hours and the film 2, but really, I think they both did really, really well. Jim Steinman, picoreviews & Jane Austen

Not that the objects of the subject line have anythign to do with one another, you understand, they’re just both on my mind. The first because I’m listening to Jim Steinman music, and it always makes me want to write a rock & roll fantasy, and then I’m depressed because I can’t imagine actually writing something that does to me what the over-the-top Steinman music does. Picoreviews: I have been to BATTLESHIP and THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY this weekend. Picoreview: THE COLD LIGHT OF DAY: I spent the entire…

perspective

XKCD is usually terrific anyway, but this one is particularly awesome. Depths of the world’s lakes, seas, oil wells…. Also the mouseover text on the embedded comic is unusually heartbreaking, though you sort of have to start by reading the first one I linked to so you can see what the mouseover is talking about. I had Hunger Games dreams all last night. Apparently one should not binge on that trilogy and then go straight to bed. Or I shouldn’t, anyway. My brain has become more susceptible to immediate regurtitations…

The Hunger Games

Have burned through the trilogy in the past 2 days. Thought CATCHING FIRE was by far the strongest, but thought MOCKINGJAY ended the whole story appropriately. Heartstabbily, but appropriately. If I get my…self…together I’ll write a more through commentary in the next few days, but my goodness, it’s been a long time since I’ve read 3 books in 2 days. (How sad is that?) The remainder of the week will be spent focusing hard on NO DOMINION revisions. (Honest, that’s why I read two books today. I was going to…
