This morning Mom IM’d me to ask if I knew the name of the combination step flap toe heel heel slap-back slap-back shuffle ball change flap, so naturally I got up and did it. My feet didn’t recognize it; they wanted to do slap-heel slap-heel, which I reported. She said that was more accurate, so I got up and did it again several times. Ted, sitting on the other couch, looked over at me curiously and I explained that Mom wanted to know if I knew if the step had a name. He laughed out loud and said, “I love my family.” :)
It turned out my feet did recognize it, but I didn’t have a name for it. And it turned out Mom wanted to know because another friend of ours from Kenai had emailed her to ask if *she* knew a name for the step. We think it doesn’t have one, and that it’s just one of the nameless steps that our dance teacher’s old hoofer teacher taught her. The thing about tap, anyway, is that beyond the very most basic time step, everybody calls everything different names anyway, so it hardly matters if a step’s got a name.
