the words, the words!

This is the problem with writing a book: my daily posts become about nothing else. Although I must say I’m enjoying walking down to Cobh to walk home with Ted after work very much; not only does it get me out of the house for sure, but it gives us some extra time together that we wouldn’t have, ’cause after having had him around for several months I kinda miss him during the day! I have a date with that very fellow this evening, in fact. We’re gonna watch Pirates I, in preparation for Pirates II this weekend. Yay! :)

Best thing about writing 5K a day: it’s getting rid of those nasty 0’s and 1’s in my ytd wordcount. For some reason rolling over to 100K, 200K, etc, makes me really crabby when I look at numbers like 205K. That 0 in there makes it seem like a Small Number. *gives it dirty looks* So by tomorrow I should have chugged right on through those nasty little numbers and move into some real ones again.

Ok, that’s really like about the 5th best thing about writing 5K a day, the book moving forward in visibly large chunks being the actual best and achieving significant milestones in percentages regularly being second best, etc etc etc, but let’s not get hung up on details. Anyway, the bankruptcy chapter got worked out in precisely the manner I said it would, chapter 12 got finished up, chapter 13 meant I had to go take out the last 3 paragraphs of chapter 11, and I’ve left off with conflict so starting again tomorrow shouldn’t be too bad. (This is my secret, btw. I usually try very hard to stop at a point where conflict is about to happen, so I have something to leap right into. If I can get off to a good start, it helps enormously with achieving wordcount.)

See, I told you. All about the book. I’d say I need a life, but I inevitably put any life-getting plans on hold in favor of writing when I’m in the groove, so I’m afraid this is as good as it gets. :) Oh! But I have big plans for tomorrow! Ted’s working late, so when I’m done with my words I’m going into Cork to buy good froot, and I’m going to go see The Wind That Shakes the Barley, assuming I’m feeling up to depressing Irish stories. I think I will be. :) Yay! Signs of life! :)

  1. Damn, you make me want to go write my superman fanfic some more instead of working. *shakes fist at you*

  2. I can’t really say anything when most of my LJ posts are “I wrote words today!”.

Well, I guess I can say that I don’t mind those sorts of posts at all. In fact, I kind of like them.

But I’m a “I wrote words today!” sort of person :)

  3. Don’t think of it as not having a life. Think of it as constructing a new one, chock full of annoying internet dweebs all competing to see who can score the best autograph from the famous writer. (I win! Hee!! Yay, me!!!)

  4. fixing the Blog.
5k/day? Wow. I haven’t written anything since last month. On a weekend I can write 5k. Most days I barely get in less then 1k. Currently I’m laying out scenes in my 4th draft of various novels. This project actually looks like it’s going to go somewhere. Novel draft project #4 that is.

  5. You know, when you enjoy your job, it makes it ok. I mean, sure… you may not have much of a life to post about right now, but you are doing what you love, and living in a cool/different place, and it’ll balance out in the end. Some days just aren’t interesting. :)
