…I would open a daily word wars chat room if I wasn’t in a completely different time zone from so many of the writers I know. I mean, really, the Pacific coast writers won’t be up for hours yet, and most of the East Coasters aren’t really stirring yet either (except LAG, who seems to often be on early). Still, if the idea appeals, leave a comment and maybe I’ll start doing that.
(Word wars: a scenario where you set the clock for 30 or 45 minutes and everybody writes as fast as they can for that amount of time, then comes back to report how they did before doing it all over again.)
I noticed that I don’t actually have any of mizkit.com’s sub-pages linked from the main page, so I’m making a half-hearted effort to finally get all the sub-pages into WordPress. So far I’ve done the reading list, which is really about the only one I ever update, anyway. It’s a little odd seeing it in the mizkit.com format instead of the very outdated design it’d been in.
Swam 2500 meters this morning and am feeling pleasantly tired. However, I can’t let myself snooze, so I’m going to drop behind a cut tag and do a liveblog writing day in order to try to keep myself engaged.
ytd km swum: 32.1
miles to Minas Tirith: 154.5
11:16am: I have managed to open the necessary files. It’s an exciting start to the day.
11:22: reading my friends list is not keeping myself engaged. *guilty*
11:38: braincramp. accustomed to picking up a thesaurus when i need a word. several seconds of bewildered delay while I adjust to the idea of using thesaurus.com instead. also, lucy is being very annoying. MEEEOOOOW. MEEEOOOW. MEEEEEH. MAAAAAH.
11:57: 552 words and I’m going to go feed the cats. Back at a quarter after, probably.
12:16: back in the saddle. at 1pm *I* get to eat…
12:17: agh zilli is cuting on me! must…stay…awake!
12:42: hey, 1001 words! yay! oh no, now both cats are cuting on me. aaaagh! so warm! so fuzzy! so purry!
1:03: 1300 words, and I think I’ll go have lunch now.
1:43: this is where it starts getting tough. It’s after lunch, I’ve already written 1300 words which would, by any sensible standards, be enough for a day…but I really should be writing a chapter a day, so that’s more like a 3K goal than a 1K. :p OTOH, I’m getting extras lined up for the Chance graphic novel, so that’s something.
All right. I need an absolute minimum of 2K today. Let’s see where I can get to by 2:30…
2:31: mmm, 1939. Not quite as good as I hoped.
2:58: 2350. A little better. Break time now, my butt is numb.
3:24: ok, getting back to it. Another 750-1Kish will finish the chapter, unless something goes hideously wrong.
3:33: reading icanhazcheezburger: not lyk wurk
3:43: ok, that’s pretty much twenty minutes of surfing the net which would have been better spent writing, obviously. Come on, brain. Not that much more. Tell you what, when you’re done with your words you can write a *poll* to see if a word war chat room would be used by people. Won’t that be *fun*?
3:58: the little red M of gmail seduces me from my writing! But I’ve done 400 words in the last 15 minutes, so that’s a win. I’m reaching the point of just needing a good chapter end and then I can be done for the day. *goes back to it*
4:47: apparently I went directly to ‘quit’ instead of ‘get back to it’. There will be one more update at half five, at which time I’d better be done with this chapter. :p
5:16: 3271 and done.
ytd wordcount: 86,100
Hurray! That’s the ol’ Murphy spirit!
I haven’t heard of “word wars” before, but it seems like an efficient way to harness the power of friendly competition. Thanks!
