Picoreview: Looper

Picoreview: Looper: I’m going to be the one who didn’t like this movie. It wasn’t JG-L or Bruce Willis, both of whom I adore, even if JG-L looks about as much like Bruce Willis as I do. Possibly less, even, even with the makeup (though there were two or three moments in the film where between the makeup and body language he absolutely *nailed* Willis). Emily Blunt was wonderful. I recognize that my really specific problems with the violence are what one might call “trigger issues”, but even looking beyond…

too many miles

I have, with no particular intent to do so, walked in the region of 65 miles since the beginning of the month. I am a little sore from all this walking, and would like a hot bath and a massage. *looks hopefully at the world* I’ve been idly searching for the blank book in which I wrote half a dozen children’s book manuscripts. It wasn’t anywhere I thought it should be, but fortunately, in rescuing toy train parts a couple of days ago, I glanced into a box and there…

picoreview: DKR & Springsteen

Picoreview: The Boss puts on a good show. Even if I knew exactly four songs, all hits from the 80s, I’m damned glad we went to the Springsteen concert. It was fun, he was great, he lifted a 7 year old kid up onto the stage to sing with him, and it is my recollection that in the 80s, aside from a moderate musical talent, he was also known for really being able to fill out a pair of jeans. Dude’s 62 and can still shake that thang. Dayum. (Halfway…

Picoreviews!

Picoreview: Magic Mike: It was okay. They felt obliged to put an actual story in, which was really unnecessary, and overall it wasn’t anything like as titillating or fun as one might hope. The Full Monty is a much more watchable film. Picoreview: The Amazing Spider-Man: I liked the casting better in this than the other movies, so they would have really had to have screwed it up for me to dislike it. They didn’t really screw it up. Emma Stone was absolutely wonderful as Gwen Stacy, and the rest…

a nice weekend

It’s been a nice weekend. Kate came up to visit, and I dragged her to see “Rock of Ages”, a film which she had no particular desire to see. Afterward she almost forgave me, except she doesn’t like Tom Cruise and the movie made her like him and that was pretty unforgiveable. :) I have made headway into cleaning my office. So far I’ve gotten all the Christmas wrapping paper out of there, which was a big improvement all by itself. I also cleared one bookshelf entirely of crap, which…
